Steven asks…

Need Help Deciding On Which HDTV To Buy?

Ok I’ll give you what I have currently right now then I’ll give you the situations I’ll be using the HDTV for so that overall you guys can make my transition easier…so here goes.

What I have right now:

I have a 27 in RCA tube tv (SD Only)
I have cable (it’s not basic…I know that much)
I have my PS3 plugged into a external PC speakers (Logitech Z323) through component cables)
I’m still living in SD tv mode,no HD anything

My situations for putting my future HDTV to use would be:

~ Playing PS3 games
~ Watching DVD,HD DVD as well as Blu Ray through my PS3
~ Watching tv (In SD for now)
~ Watching sports (I’m a huge hockey fan and I don’t want the tv to lag while watching the game.

My questions would be these:

1) Which LCD tv models do the best job at upscaling SD channels.
2) Is 60 hz fast enough for playing ps3 games or watching a hockey game or should I go with 120 hz.
3) Is SD picture really that bad on a HDTV,I’ve heard alot of that?
4) Will the built in QAM/NTSC tuner help make a SD channel at least watchable.
5) For SD tv programs on a HDTV,how big should I go where I won’t notice the picture quality…I had my eye on the Sony Bravia Sony BRAVIA 40″ 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV (KDL40EX500) Model or the 32” version of it or is there a better brand name that makes SD channels watchable?
6) I’m looking at a budget between $600 to $800 (including HST) (Once I get the money saved up)
7) Should I just go to my local Best Buy and ask them to let me see a SD channel on that model and go from there?

Basically I want to get a HDTV just to play games on my PS3 in HD and watch movies but is it worth it even with the built in QAM/NTSC tuners to watch SD broadcasts on a 32” or a 40″ HDTV?

Any help would be appreciated.

answers:

For gaming and fast action sports programes your better off with a plasma tv due to they do NOT motion blur when there is fast action on screen like some lcd tv’s do and there is no cure,,

look in best buy at the picture quality of the tv’s but do NOT buy them there,, look in amazon for cheaper prices

Component cables are definitely the buy. You don’t know what 480p is until it’s missing. It’s also very nice with Gamecube games, it makes progressive scan games 10 times more clear.

It was a lovely counter attack and two brilliant saves from Cech. I believe that would have finished Chelsea off. As a United fan though, in hindsight i must thank Cech for keeping Chelsea in the game and although my nerves were shredded watching the game he did keep it interesting.

I use TV mode, gain 0, white balance outdoor, shutter speed 1/60, fully zoomed in to 90mm, from about 25ft. I have been trying to get good dof on the xh a1 for some time now. It is advised here on youtube to go manual for best results, however after working with the camera I found that TV is better? since the camera automatically sets the thus letting in more light when you zoom.
