Ruth asks…
Bank account after Bankruptcy?
I was forced to go Bankrupt in January of this year due to falling ill, becoming disabled and having to resign from my job. Due to the reasons of my Bankruptcy the court have decided it would be of no benefit to keep me undischarged. I am therefore now not a serving Bankrupt.
I have had a basic bank account since the Bankruptcy and have kept it in good order. How long does it take for a Bank to allow me a standard current account / switch card ? I don’t want any credit or overdraft but for online food shopping it would be very handy to have a switch/maestro card.
Which Banks would be the best to approach? I have a fairly good amount of money going through the account each month now but not an income from an employer. It would just make my life so much easier if I had a standard account and at most a cheque book.
Also what are the best ways to rebuild my credit rating? I have a phone on contract etc Will that be helping? Also I have never missed any payments of my house hold bills ..
Thank you
Yes I went Bankrupt but was discharged after 5 months instead of the statutory 12 months.

It sounds like you need bank account advice, I always think the Co op Cashminder account is a good one as it has a visa debt card.
The mobile phone will help you rebuild your credit as will using small amounts of credit responsibly.
